Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has openly admitted that he is "trying to get Kurt Zouma" this summer as he looks to bolster the physical presence of his squad. I am asking you the Chelsea fan reading this if you think he should consider letting him go on loan?
Zouma has impressed all of us with his performances in defence and also surprisingly in the defensive midfield role (just ask Marouane Fellaini) this season. He has responded when called upon and has made a real name for himself with the fans taking him to their hearts.
However, at least for next season (and you would have to believe that to be the case with JT signing a new one-year deal) that Zouma would have to settle for a place on the bench behind Gary Cahill and JT once again as they appear to the Jose Mourinho's preferred choice.
So where does that leave Zouma? Would he be used in the same way next season by the manager and brought into the side to play a key role in games? Is that enough for Zouma when he needs to be playing regularly in order to aid his development?
So what of the interest from the Sampdoria President. Well speaking recently, Massimo Ferrero revealed that he intends to appoint the legendary Goalkeeper Walter Zenga as his new boss following the departure of Sinisa Mihajlovic and he has already earmarked Zouma as a main target.
He said:
"I'm trying to get Zouma from Chelsea. I spoke with [Jurgen] Klopp, [Roberto] Di Matteo, [Unai] Emery and [Maurizio] Sarri, who told me that they want a team who can play football, but I've got a physical side and I want players like the ones Zenga told me about.
I've already signed [Niklas] Moisander and I'm getting Zouma because they are physical players."
His interest is concrete as it seems and Sampdoria would be able to offer Zouma regular first team football in what is going to be an all important season with the European Championships to come this time next year.
Players need to be playing regular football if they want to be considered for the tournament and I cannot see that Zouma would settle for the same scenario at Chelsea this time around.
I would personally let him go for a season on loan because we have cover in defence. Branislav Ivanovic can play at centre back with Cesar Azpilicueta moving over to the right hand side. Filipe Luis if he is still here could play at left back or if reports are correct, we could potentially sign Toby Alderweireld from Atletico and he can play on the left or at centre back.
What do you people think we should do about Zouma? Would you let him go out on loan or would you play him much more next season at Chelsea? If so, who does he come into the side in the place of?
I'm interested in reading plenty of your opinions!
