An interesting report has appeared in recent days involving an approach made by Real Madrid for Thibaut Courtois. The response from Chelsea is believed to have quoted a world record fee for a Goalkeeper and now they have turned their attention to David De Gea.
Most reports would have you believe that David De Gea was Real Madrid's number one choice this summer. For months we have sat and watched the continued speculation as if we are waiting for an announcement to be made confirming the deal but now it seems that things are actually a lot different.
According to this report, Real Madrid have made an approach for Thibaut Courtois or at least enquired as to his availability and were firmly put in their place. They were quoted a figure of £73m if they wanted to sign him after having a fee of £37m in mind to try and force Chelsea into selling him.
Excellent from Chelsea and rightly so. Courtois signed a new five-year contract not so long ago so why on earth would Chelsea even consider doing business??
But for one or two minor mishaps this season, Courtois was outstanding and fully deserved to be our number one ahead of Petr Cech.
As Jose Mourinho prepares to build the core of a team that will hopefully last another decade as he did previously here, it's clear that Courtois is a vital part of our future.
What do you think of the world record fee quoted to Real Madrid?
