As I saw the appointment of Rafa Benitez as the new Real Madrid manager I shook my head in disbelief. Now, according to a report featured in The Telegraph, he is about to make a bold move to sign Diego Costa and Eden Hazard!
First and foremost I think bollocks and no chance. Diego Costa has recently denied any reports that he is unhappy in London and that he wants to stay at Chelsea.
Secondly, Eden Hazard has committed his immediate future to Chelsea by signing a new contract and also stating recently that he does not need to move anywhere else or to leave Chelsea.
However, and we can't deny it, the lure of Real Madrid is such that a player would have to think twice to turn them down. Up to this point all we have read is rumours of their interest in Eden Hazard to which he has played down. I wonder what happens if a concrete offer came in for him? It would have to be astronomical of course and a possible world record but would Hazard ask Chelsea to consider it?
What of Costa? Well, you would have to believe that his connection with Atletico would remain strong and he would turn a move for him down but once again, being given the chance to play for one of the biggest teams in the world could be something that is difficult to turn down.
Chelsea would resist any offers from anyone for either of these two as they look to build upon this season to make a much better effort to win the Champions League under Mourinho. You can imagine that Jose would insist that no one is sold.
The problem is that although we are now considered as one of the biggest clubs in Europe, we cannot compete with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid until we extend Stamford Bridge and have consistent successes in Europe. We have a long way to go to compare to Real's TEN Champions League victories!
I wouldn't put it past Rafa Benitez to try and rock the boat here by making contact with Chelsea over their availability. I sincerely hope that someone at Chelsea tells him what they should have told him a while ago and that's to F**k Off!
Lets hope its purely paper talk!
