The loans now will start coming thick and fast and we near the start of Pre Season and as is normal now there will a number of loans going to our friends at Vitesse and the first has already been confirmed in the shape of Lewis Baker.
Baker is not the first English player to make the loan move to Vitesse following in the footsteps of first Sam Hutchinson who barely featured and last season Josh McEachran who after a slow start to life in the Netherlands eventually settled and played well towards the end of the season.
Sending Baker to Vitesse is a very interesting prospect, the 20 year old is very technically gifted and plays good football and the Dutch League is very much suited to that style of play. That is not to say that Baker cannot get involved in a physical game because he is more than capable and he has already shown that he can handle the lower leagues in the English game.
Last season Baker was sent out on loan twice, firstly to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, however he found it hard to get a game there and he only made 4 appearances but he followed that up with a much more successful loan move to League 1 with MK Dons and playing a vital part helped them to promotion while making 11 appearances and scoring 3 goals.
Baker is player with big potential and with last season being only a partial success he really needs to make this loan a very good one, and playing abroad is a good option for our young players and Vitesse has helped a number of young players progress. Hopefully this will be a loan and an environment where Lewis Baker can flourish and develop well.
