Christian Benteke has admitted that he is open to a move from Aston Villa this summer but has stated that if he moves elsewhere, he wants to play regular football. Do you think Chelsea would offer him that?
It's going to take someone £32.5m to activate the release clause in his contract after Tim Sherwood virtually admitted that he is powerless to stop that happening during this close season. The problem is, whoever pays that amount of money is going to have to place the big Belgian Striker straight into their first team. It's what you would naturally expect for that amount of money!
Benteke already has one eye on the European Championships in 2016 and said:
“My agent knows my ambition. It is important to play.
If you want to be in your [country's] first 11, you have to play in your club.
Its about [my agent]. He knows what I want and I’ll let him do the job. I don’t think about Aston Villa now.
I did my season with Villa and now I am focused with the national team. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I had some hard times with my injury but I knew my time would come and I would work hard for it.
I think I can be better in every situation – my left foot, right foot, heading. I’m still young and I’m motivated about working hard and being better than before.”
I personally rate Benteke highly and believe that he could replace Didier Drogba at our club. Just look at his physical presence, his ability in the air and his eye for a goal. He would be the perfect option for Jose Mourinho to mix things up in the final third.
The problem is, the player has made it clear that he wants to play week in, week out and I do not think that Chelsea would be able to offer Benteke that assurance.
He is someone who has obvious talent and ability but I cannot see him joining Chelsea this summer for the reasons stated above.
What do you people think?
