Another defender linked with move to Chelsea!

Another defender is being linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge and this time it's Atletico Madrid's Toby Alderweireld. According to this report, Chelsea are keen on the Belgian international as a possible replacement for Luis Filipe.

Alderweireld had a great season at Southampton on loan and has admitted that he would love to stay in the Premier League next season and beyond. He said: 

“I really want to go to a club that really wants me.

There are three options - stay with Atletico, stay with Southampton or go to another club. So we will see what happens.

Southampton gave me that opportunity and it paid off, I think. I’ve had a fantastic year, I can’t lie about that, so, yes, I’d like to stay in the Premier League.”

I like him as a player and he offers cover both at left back and also centre back as we have seen this past season. 

Experience of playing in the Premier League, especially as a defender is key and Alderweireld fits the bill for me if Luis is allowed to return to Madrid. 

The report states that Southampton have an option to sign him for as little as £7m this summer but he has also attracted interest from Tottenham and Manchester City in addition to Chelsea. 

He is only 26, part and parcel of the Belgium squad so already has connections here in Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard and should Jose Mourinho come calling, I believe we would have a real chance of signing him.
