John Terry has called upon Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho to give Didier Drogba a new deal for next season and I just wondered if you agreed with our Captain?
Let me start by saying that whatever happens, Didier Drogba will go down in history as a Legend at this club and arguably our best ever striker for what he has achieved here. When he decides to call time on his Chelsea career (again) and his career full stop, only then will people other than Chelsea supporters, look back and realise just how important he was for us and how much of an impact he had in England.
Granted, it was a surprise to see him come back to Chelsea but when Jose Mourinho came back, it was always going to be on the cards. The question remains over this future and if he can carry on at this level in the hardest league in the world?
Speaking of Drogba this week and his current contract which expires at the end of the season, JT has said:
'He's been great because he's had to be patient. Ideally he would have liked a bit more game-time.
'But Diego (Costa) hit the ground running, scoring a lot of goals. But Didier's experience and the way he speaks before the games, after defeats when you're down and you need an old head to help. At times we've been worried after defeats and he's said that it happens and we'll bounce back and be all right. When you hear that from someone like him, everyone takes it on board.
Let's hope he's in the camp next season. He's got a massive part to play on and off the field. He's shown that on the field but off the field he really has got a massive part to play.'
There is little doubt over the influence he has in the changing room amongst the players. He commands the respect of the others and deserves it for all he has achieved.
As for his influence on the pitch? Well it's clear he doesn't have that yard of pace that he used to but he can still play a part for me but only if we play to his strengths. At times he has been found wanting and just cannot make the same runs as often as he used to.
However, he remains strong and an obvious aerial threat in the box and a good defensive option to have at defending set pieces.
Is that going to be enough going forward next season? What do you think?
