With all these reports linking Chelsea to Gareth Bale in recent weeks, I watched his performance with interest last night. What do you people think now?
He is short on confidence and looks like a man under pressure. You could see that with every pass that goes astray, every ball he miss-hits and every goalscoring chance squandered - the weight of expectation weights heavier and heavier on his shoulders.
It's important to remember that we cannot judge someone based on just one game here. However, it's clear to anyone that watches La Liga that this season compared to last, has been disappointing.
There has been moments when he has shown signs of what he is capable of but they have been few and far between and as we know the fans have turned on him by expressing their dissatisfaction at his efforts including vandalising is car recently.
I have said this on my site many times but I honestly believe that these days you have to be as good with man managing players as you are being tactically aware. Gareth Bale needs that arm around his shoulder and it appears that Carlo Ancelotti (under immense pressure now himself) isn't that kind of person to do it.
We were all surprised to see Cesc Fabregas being coaxed away from Barcelona to come back to the Premier League with Chelsea and I wouldn't put it passed Jose Mourinho to work his magic once again with Bale.
We are all biased because he is our manager so we all think he is the best and will blow smoke up his arse at every single opportunity but the simple fact remains that Jose Mourinho is widely acknowledged as one of the best in the world and someone that people want to play for. If he came calling do you think Bale could resist knowing the situation he is faced with in Madrid right now?
I personally believe that the opposite side to Eden Hazard is where we are lacking another world class talent to balance the team. Don't get me wrong here, Willian has been outstanding but he isn't of the same level as Hazard or Bale but much better through the middle.
If Chelsea can coax Bale to Stamford Bridge it would prove to be a masterstroke from Mourinho and from Chelsea once again for backing their Manager.
The question remains, would Gareth Bale come to Chelsea if given the chance and would you want him after watching last night?
