Despite the fact that Crystal Palace had proven to be a difficult side to play against last season, I still honestly believed that Manchester City would go to Selhurst Park and pick up three points. The fact that they have lost surely hands the title to Chelsea!
On paper, Chelsea could have the title wrapped up away to Leicester on Wednesday 29th April, the fourth of our run of games this month. Beforehand, we face QPR on Sunday, Manchester United the week after and then Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday 26th April and if we win those games, all we need is another victory in the Midlands to do it.
Last night demonstrated again Chelsea's game management and why they are a better side that Manchester City. Chelsea have lost only twice this season so far compared to City who have lost SIX games. The fact that in City's last two away games they have lost to Burnley and now Crystal Palace, just shows you how well Chelsea have done this season compared to last.
Think of all the criticism Chelsea have had in over the past month or so. Reports stated that Chelsea were way off their best, players were not playing well, suffering dips in form and we were having problems. Despite all that, we never lost any games, we kept winning games dropped points in only three of our last ten games to City, Southampton and Burnley!
Just look at this weekends games coming up and there is potential for dropped points from our rivals. Arsenal face a Saturday evening trip to Burnley which as City found out isn't easy. Manchester United take on Manchester City and has all the makings of a great game as they battle each other to finish as high up as possible, while Chelsea travel to West London rivals QPR which is no easy game of course.
It's a times like these, as the season moves into it's latter stages that it's imperative that you pick up points. To play well and win games is fantastic but if you are not at your best, you must somehow grind out the results and that's what Chelsea have been doing all along.
Right now, after last nights result, the pressure is on Arsenal, City and United to win their games and to fight it out for second, third and fourth and I still believe there will be a couple of twists and turns before the season finishes. Any dropped points between now and the end of the season could prove to be costly for all of them.
As for Chelsea, we just need to maintain the same levels of focus that we have shown throughout the season so far, to pick up three points game after game and the League should take care of itself.
It's just funny that from the beginning of the season to this point, everyone believed that Manchester City have the best squad and would be our biggest rivals for the Premier League title. Now, they are in a battle to finish second!
What a fantastic position Chelsea find themselves in right now!
