Jose Mourinho has confirmed in his press conference this afternoon ahead of the game against QPR at Loftus Road on Sunday that Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic WILL start the game despite both being one yellow card away from a suspension. I am wondering whether or not you agree?
The reason I am asking you the Chelsea fan reading this piece, is obvious. We have Manchester United at home in our next fixture and surely we MUST be at full strength for this one rather than against QPR?
That's no disrespect to our West London rivals in any way at all but the fact that Derby games can be hostile and hard fought and it'e better to take the possibility of one of them being booked by not playing them!
We have Mikel who is available for selection again, Kurt Zouma has demonstrated that he can play there as another option and finally there is Ramires - another option.
I can understand the benefit of playing the Fabregas and Matic (as everyone will) because of what they offer to our midfield. You take one or both of them out of the side, it changes the balance. Also, I can understand the boss going for the points available now rather than look ahead to United.
I just worry that QPR away, in the hostile atmosphere against a side fighting for their Premier League survival could turn into a real physical battle and players will fly into tackles all over the pitch. I just don't want either of them to get sucked into all that and to concentrate on what they do best.
Nemanja Matic will patrol the area in front of the back four but will have to select and time his tackles, making sure they are 100% spot on because you can imagine the opposition will be well aware of the possible suspension he faces.
As for Fabregas, I would rather him not make a single tackle, steer clear of trouble and look to pick his passes to create openings for us that could be at a premium. Is that going to be enough in a game like this though?
What do you people think here. Do you agree that both are starting against QPR?
