Kurt Zouma has been speaking over the past couple of days while away with France, talking about Jose Mourinho's managerial style the demands he has from Zouma himself.
In a revealing interview, Zouma talks of the fact that Jose Mourinho has high standards and expects the same from everyone.
Zouma said:
"Mourinho puts pressure on all his players. It is very demanding - he wants perfection from everyone. He won't let you take a month to fix something.
In defence, he asked me to move tactically, to be well placed to listen to the older players around me, John [Terry] and Gary Cahill.
Initially, in midfield, I was obsessed with the ball - I was not paying enough attention to the players behind me - but it's something I've been working on. In midfield, it's different. He asks me to use my power and stay in place to help the defence. "In my view it's the best way to learn. If you want to be a regular performer in the first team of a big club then you should expect the levels Jose demands from his players. There is a pressure to perform week in, week out and in a way, it separates the men from the boys so to speak as the ones who can handle it, play and play well for the most part.
For Zouma in particular, having the likes of John Terry giving him guidance when he plays in the middle of the back four or even in front of the back four in midfield, it can only be a massive help to his development.
If the season finished now and you were being asked of Zouma and his first season at the club based on performances to this point, you would have to agree that it has been a success. When he was asked to play in the back four he has done well and when he has been asked to do a job in midfield he has done the same.
Kurt Zouma has done himself no harm with his performances this season to date and by the sounds of it, accepts the demands the manager has put on him in line with the rest of the squad.
Zouma is one to keep an eye on over the next few years because it's obvious that everyone at the club has high hopes for him!
What do you think of his season so far?
