After picking up his third League Cup medal at Wembley on Sunday, Petr Cech's future is in the spotlight once again. Having been selected for the Capital One Cup final ahead of Thibaut Courtois, Jose Mourinho was asked of the big goalkeepers future.
He responded by saying:
"I don’t think Petr is a guy to be persuaded.
I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him because it’s just his decision. If he tells me he wants to leave I will tell him my opinion, that he is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world, so huge money.’
As we know, plenty of clubs have been linked with the Goalkeeper and I have to admit, I have been surprised at the fact he is still here!
It cannot be easy for Petr Cech having been the number one at this club for the best part of ten years, to now find himself on the bench for the most part of the season so far.
It was a real nice touch from the manager to stick with him in the League Cup and to play him in the final as hopefully, Courtois will be able to experience plenty more finals in the future with Chelsea.
That doesn't take away the fact that Cech finds himself in a difficult situation here despite his attitude being first class in training and around the club.
I honestly believe that this could be the last we see of Cech in a Chelsea shirt (this season) as he will want to feature playing first team football next season with the likes of Arsenal being linked with a summer move.
Despite the fact he isn't our number one, Jose Mourinho has told Arsenal or anyone else interested that it is going to take big money to take him away from Stamford Bridge!
We will wait and see what happens at the end of the season.
