Speaking yesterday in the pre match press conference ahead of tonight's crunch game with PSG, Cesc Fabregas revealed an area that he believes that we are still lacking and called for the team to improve as we head into the real business end of the season.
We have seen back in the title winning seasons under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti that Chelsea had a real killer instinct in games and put teams to the sword despite clearly winning games without being in any real danger.
Last season for example, think of all the games that Chelsea threw away points that cost us the league title. As we head into the same time this season, Fabregas has been quick to call upon his team mates to improve on what already has been a great season so far starting tonight against PSG.
He said:
“This is the thing: if I have to say what we’re missing this season it’s that moment when, if we can kill, we have to kill.
There have been moments where we’ve not done that and allowed opponents to be dangerous. We have to be more determined.
When we get one goal, we have to go for the second and third. That’s the thing we can improve. Hopefully we will have that killer instinct against Paris and go for it from the first second.
From my experience, winning our first trophy together will help. Especially with the Spanish national team.
When we unlocked, mentally, that fear of getting into a really big stage, that’s when we felt we could become champions.
Once we were champions we were unstoppable. That’s what we have to do at Chelsea. We have to believe we are the best, be mentally dominant.
There will be moments when PSG are on top, we don’t expect a walk in the park, so we have to be mentally and physically ready and stick together"
Spot on from Fabregas in my opinion. Watching the first leg back again the other day, I have pinpointed an area that I believe PSG are weak and Chelsea MUST expose this time and time again this evening.
I really like the fact that Cesc has encouraged his team mates to really go at PSG and attack them with a killer instinct. That would be a different approach from the first game but one that is to be expected. Jose Mourinho knows exactly how to manage these two legged games and do not expect Chelsea to park the bus.
If Chelsea, as Fabregas has encouraged them to do, can play an attacking game whilst remaining solid and compact at the back, then PSG will struggle to cope with us and that's my honest opinion. We need to play at Premier League pace to do so.
In games such as these you need to score goals when you are dominating the game. Let's hope we see that from Chelsea tonight!
We are surely winning this. Up Blues!
ReplyDeleteOn the line up - would have preferred Zouma alongside Matic and Fabregas pushed up in Oscars place.
