It wasn't a great performance yesterday and it's two more points dropped at home. However, it's important to focus on the fact that there ARE some positives from the game at Stamford Bridge against Southampton.
Costa on the goal trail again.
After a mini drought, Diego Costa got himself back on the score sheet again which is important. Before the game, we had heard that he had not found the net for a few weeks and as we know with Fernando Torres, any length of time without scoring plays heavily on a strikers mind.
As for the goal, it was nice to see him make his run off the shoulder of the last defender and meet the one and only cross Bransilav Ivanovic hit that was decent in the game.
As I said, it was a big goal for the Spanish striker and hopefully he will kick on again from here.
We didn't lose the game.
It's worth pointing out that although we were disappointing and our first half performance was woeful (apart from the Costa goal), we never lost the game. Southampton had plenty of chances and should have scored at least one of them in addition to the penalty but they never took their chances.
We keep hearing pundits talk about playing badly but still picking up points and despite we all know that we have dropped FOUR at home to Burnley and Southampton, we picked up an important point.
We have extended our lead over Manchester City.
No one would have predicted that Burnley would turn City over on Saturday night. The fact they did gave us a chance to extend our lead.
Hoping that we would extend the lead to eight points with an additional game in hand (Leicester at home) we still take comfort in the fact that we drew the game but managed to extend the lead from five to six points.
Jose talked about extending the lead yesterday after the game and he is right. Chelsea have lost two games all season in the Premier League and it will take us losing another two (as it stands) for City to catch us.
Conclusion.
As I said, it wasn't a good performance but we didn't lose, extended our lead and Diego Costa scored! There are some positives to take from the game despite feeling very different last night!
One of the biggest problem this team is facing is in the attack. Our inability to score more goals to kill the game as really affected us, we need a creative 10 to support Diego Costa it was a big mistake that we sold Mata, if you look back at the time when Mata was at Chelsea, Mata was the best attacking option we had next to hazard he could break down defenses with is passes and skill, compare him to Oscar and how ineffective he has been, he hasn't been able to fill in matas role. How I miss mazacar in the attack
