When asked of the difficulty of facing Liverpool at Anfield tonight in the League Cup Semi Final, Jose Mourinho responded in a way you would expect after two wins from two games there since his return to Chelsea and the Premier League.
Ahead of tonights first leg, and Brendan Rodgers talking up the confidence in his Liverpool team, Mourinho was asked about his feelings ahead of the trip tonight. He responded by saying:
Mourinho has got our two performances at Anfield since his return spot on and I expect him to do the same tonight.“I like to play at Anfield. It’s difficult, but I like it, although I have some difficult memories. To lose a Champions League semi-final with a goal that was not a goal stays with you forever. Of course, it still hurts and in the Capital One Cup there is no goal-line technology, so we are free to have the same happen. We played at Anfield a couple of months ago and there was no problem. It is an historical stadium. Who doesn’t like to go there and play there? I like it, my players like it, so there are only good feelings to play at Anfield.”
The manager is right, Anfield like Old Trafford are stadiums we should look forward to going to and hopefully dominating the game.
Many, many years ago you looked at Anfield as a fortress in the hope that you could go there and do well to maybe force the right result your way. Now, that's just not the case as we have won two from two there of late.
I just hope tonight as the manager says; the players go out and enjoy themselves and their football and get the right result to take back to Stamford Bridge in the return leg next week.
