Speaking to the Official TV Channel of FCBarcelona, Lionel Messi has claimed reports of a move away from Barcelona as "lies" after he played an important role in Barcelona's 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid last night.
Much has been said about the Argentine Striker over recent weeks and although it would be fantastic for Chelsea to sign him; it never really seemed like a possibility really did it? The huge transfer fee in addition to his astronomical wages have virtually made a move impossible now as we live within the constraints of Financial Fair Play.
It was interesting to note that Messi was deployed on the right wing by Luis Enrique as part of their front three with Luis Suarez through the middle and Neymar down the left hand side. For me, it was a mistake and a possible weakness going forward in the Champions League. In that position he is asked to track back and gave away a ridiculous penalty which was a joke it has to be said.
Messi is the conductor of their Orchestra and to be shoved out on the right hand side (although at times effective) it just didn't look right and I have to say he didn't look that happy for the majority of the game.
So to his comments about these rumours and when asked of a move away and reports that he had fallen out with Luis Enrique, he responded by saying:
“I have never demanded anything to stay because I don’t have any intention of going,” he said. “I heard people say that my dad had spoken to Chelsea, to City … it’s all lies.”I heard all sorts of things said. I never come out and deny [stories] but this time I am. It has been said that I have pushed out lots of people … Eto’o, Ibrahimovic, Bojan, Guardiola … [and] I didn’t ask them to sack our manager. It’s not good for people to look for rivalry between me and Luis Enrique because there isn’t any.It hurts because it comes from people who [supposedly] love Barcelona. It’s people who want to hurt the club – and this time it did not come from Madrid, like other times, it has come from here. I have heard lots of things being said about me before and now. They make it look like I am the one who is in charge here when I am just another player.Don’t throw shit at us from outside because that will only do us harm.”
Strong words from Messi but it will be interesting to see what happens in the remainder of the season. Tonight he is one of the contenders for the Ballon D'or but it will go to Cristiano Ronaldo after his performances last season.
If Barcelona continue to deploy Messi down the right hand side in the Champions League as I have said, it will give people a chance to really test that side and they could only ever see that as a weakness in their armour.
If the Catalan side fail to win the Champions League or La Liga what happens then?
It's all just a dream to see Messi at Stamford Bridge but I just wonder with the fact that close friend Cesc Fabregas decided to leave the club after making an emotional return, whether or not one day Messi will want to try another league and another country?
For now, it's clear talk of a move to Chelsea or anyone else for that matter is officially over!
