DROGBA: Honoured in London - The Best Quotes from Sunday Night.

On Sunday evening at an award ceremony in London, Didier Drogba was honoured by the Football Writers Association for his outstanding contribution to Football.

Speaking at the awards night, Jose Mourinho, Petr Cech and Thierry Henry all spoke of the man who has literally won it all with Chelsea and played such a huge part in the most successful era in our history to date.

Jose Mourinho spoke of Drogba and revealed that he is of the opinion that Drogba is the best value for money signing in addition to when he first identified the big Ivorian Striker as his number one transfer target. 

Mourinho said: 

"Didier arrived at Stamford Bridge for 24 million pounds, but he is probably the best-value Chelsea player ever. 

In my first written report to Mr. Abramovich in relation to my plans for the club, I gave the names of some players. Big names were arriving at Chelsea in that period. The previous summer, for example, Claude Makelele came from Real Madrid and Hernan Crespo came from Inter, among others, but Didier was unknown and the price was very, very high.

Yet I knew as clearly as I have ever done that he was the player I wanted. I was very strong to persuade my club to pay such an amount for him and I think we can already say he was the best-value signing for Chelsea in relation to what he has done for the club over so many years, and he is not finished yet."

Petr Cech also spoke of the man he has played alongside for ten years since arriving together in the same summer from France.

Cech said:

"Didier is definitely special because he's been here in the time when we (Chelsea) had the most success.

He scored important goals in the big games, small games, and he's been ever present so I think that him coming back has been great news for everyone and he is showing his worth.

It's never easy when you try to come back and turn back time. I think that we are in a completely different situation now, and we try, obviously, to replicate what we've done in the past and keep winning titles, keep winning trophies.

When you've known someone for such a long time... when you've been playing with him for a long time... the relationship is different than when you have someone you get to know for a few weeks.

We went through the bad times, the good times, and we always managed to find a way to have success so I think it's something we have in common.

That's a great memory for all of us, Chelsea supporters and everybody involved in Chelsea Football Club, because it was the best trophy we've won in the history of the club.

When you win something for the first time it is special and winning the Champions League anyway is special. It had been our aim for years, ever since I came to the club.”

It's fantastic to see the big man finally recognised by the people that write about our game for all that he has achieved here.
