Arsenal have won themselves a massive three points by beating Manchester City at the Etihad by two goals to nil in what has to be said was a very impressive performance.
For all the comment and all the stick Chelsea have had for letting our previous eight point lead slip, in two weeks at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have the chance to beat City and extend the gap back to eight points!!
It's all a far cry from two weeks ago after defeat to Tottenham. The Press would have you believe Chelsea were in crisis and our away form has cost us the lead we had built up. City were on the up and the team in form. What a difference those two weeks has made.
As usual Jose Mourinho and his Technical staff, there was no panic at all. The continued the fantastic work they have been doing ever since they came back to the Bridge and the players have done the same.
Three wins later against Newcastle and Swansea in the Premier League in addition to Watford in the FA Cup has taken us forward and beyond Tottenham. In the same period of time, City have dropped five points with a draw at Everton and defeat yesterday putting pressure back on the side from Manchester to chase Chelsea down as they have been doing all season.
So to two weeks time and the pivotal game in the title race. For Chelsea a win would take us eight clear again and would hand a massive psychological advantage to Jose Mourinho and his team. A defeat would cut the deficit back to two points but Chelsea would remain top. Surely the pressure now is all on City.
Talking after the home defeat to Arsenal, City boss Manuel Pellegrini talked up the importance of the game at Stamford Bridge on the 31st January and said:
"The game we must play at Stamford Bridge is a very important game. We must close the gap to two points.
I hope we are going to recover and play the way we have been playing so far this season."
The result yesterday was a massive blow to City. The loss of the force that is Yaya Toure in midfield is obvious and both he and new signing Wilfried Bony will be at the African Nations Cup and will miss the game against Chelsea.
What a difference two weeks make! If we can just beat City on the 31st; pull the gap back to eight points then surely with the games we have left, we would have to be considered justified favourites to go on and win the Premier League for a fourth time!
Roll on the 31st!
