Chelsea take on Hull at Stamford Bridge tomorrow needing three important points after defeat at Newcastle last weekend. Having seen Manchester City close the gap from eight to just three points, Gary Cahill has issued a rallying call to his Chelsea team mates!
Cahill, who was at fault for the first Newcastle goal, has spoken of the importance of picking ourselves up and getting back to winning ways as soon as possible and if possible, putting another good run of form together.
He said:
“It’s important to go on another run because at the end of the season we want to be top of the league. You see how close City at this moment are to us. Even with that unbeaten run.
We think about that. How hard we worked to go on that unbeaten run and how well everyone spoke about we were playing yet we’re three points in front with many games to go.
That’s why when the manager was playing down the unbeaten thing. It’s so hard.
Everyone realises when you’re in the league it’s so hard to do that. It’s unbelievably hard to go through a season without losing a game.
But we believe we can go on another run because we’re playing well and we look good. We’ve lost one game this season. Of course the belief is there.”
All the talk of being invincible was a pain in the arse! In each and every single press conference or TV interviews, the manager and the players were constantly asked about it. To his credit, the manager said from the word go that it would not be possible now, compared to back when Arsenal did it and I agree totally.
However, Chelsea have the potential to go on another unbeaten run and look to pull a gap to our rivals again but as Cahill says, it would be tough especially with the busy Christmas period coming up.
The good thing is that we are still three points in front and can use that as a base to build from, starting with a good performance and three points tomorrow!
