Andre Schurrle has been linked with a move away from Chelsea for the last few weeks after he has found it difficult to force his way back into Jose Mourinho's side. Speaking this week, he has dismissed any thought of leaving next month.
I had expected Schurrle to be given the start in the place of Willian in the victory over Stoke last night but it was not to be. Schurrle had to settle for a place on the bench once again.
So to the reports that Schurrle has been "unsettled" at Chelsea due to his lack of first team football? Well, he has been given a start in recent weeks and has scored a couple of goals to give his confidence a boost which has been good.
He obviously has the right attitude and confirmed as much when he spoke of these reports linking him with a move away when he said:
'The last few weeks I have been able to intensively train and fight myself back into the team, Things are getting better.
Nevertheless, in a phase with less operating time, transfer rumours are always coming up. Of course I want to be on the pitch as much as possible and score goals for my club.
In a team like Chelsea, with many top players, you have to prove yourself again and again... but this is not an issue for me. I feel comfortable here and would not think of such a thing.'
With the busy Christmas period upon us and the boss admitting that he will be rotating his players to cope with the workload, Schurrle's time will come. As I have said, he has already contributed with some important goals in recent weeks and I hope he does the same in the games coming up when he gets his chance.
Let's hope his comments put an end to the speculation.
