We woke up to plenty of headlines yesterday about Gary Cahill and Chelsea players going to ground rather than another important three points for Chelsea. Chelsea beat Hull 2-0 with goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa to maintain our three point lead in the Premier League.
It wasn't the best performance of the season but we ground out the result against a plucky Hull side at the weekend. For me, it doesn't matter as long as we pick up the points because as we know, this Christmas and New Year period is hectic with games coming thick and fast so as long as we pick up the points we can forgive the performance.
There were plenty of positives in the game. Filipe Luis had a much better game than he did against Sporting Lisbon. Nemanja Matic in the heart of our midfield was great once again. Eden Hazard scored a header and provided the assist for our second goal for Diego Costa and the big man up top got back on the score sheet after a mini run of games without finding the back of the net.
Another positive from the game was the fact that Hull never really looked like scoring. When they did get into dangerous positions, they failed to hit the target and Petr Cech in goal was hardly called upon.
Now to the situation with Chelsea players going to ground. Willian expected a challenge to come which never did and as a result he was booked - no complaints. Diego Costa never even appealed for a free kick on the edge of the box! Harsh to say the least!
As for Gary Cahill, he should have been booked for his blatant dive in the box which meant he would have been sent off for a second yellow card. As with Willian, he expected the challenge to come in and it never did so it looked ridiculous. If you are ALL honest, he was lucky to remain on the pitch.
At the end of the day, it's down to the discretion of the referee on the day and Chris Foy decided to ignore Cahill's dive. Being honest, it was a surprise as Foy seemed to be picky with everything else in the game.
It was a good win for Chelsea after defeat at Newcastle. We MUST keep picking up points now to try and extend the gap to City. We have some really tough games coming up so as I said before, I don't care how we play as long as we keep winning games.
This one wasn't great but it's another win and that's all that matters!
