After victory at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime, the weekend just got better and better for Chelsea in the Premier League as we extended our lead in the title race over the teams considered to be our main rivals.
Compared to our rivals, Chelsea are bang in form at the moment with the team playing well and that seems to be the difference. The others seem to having problems that has cost them points and over the coming weeks, we could really extend the margin and put immense pressure on them to up their game.
Manchester City.
Look at who many consider to be our main title rivals Manchester City and the problems that are going through. You have to argue that but for Sergio Aguero, they would be in real trouble.
Their run of form is dismal of late and in addition, their Champions League existence is in doubt knowing they must beat Bayern Munich at home to stay in the competition. Even the Europa League is not certain as they remain rooted to the bottom of their group two points behind CSKA!
In the Premier League, City have dropped five points in their last six games and have fallen eight points behind Chelsea. You have to think back to the Etihad and Frank Lampard's late equaliser to think what might have been for the blues!
Looking from the outside in, City are far more open defensively this season.
Arsenal.
In the Premier League Arsenal have dropped ten points out of a possible eighteen which is staggering and they find themselves twelve points behind Chelsea. During the last week, Arsenal have drawn at home to Anderlecht in the Champions League having taken a three goal lead and to yesterday in Wales, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Swansea.
Arsene Wenger at this early stage has already written off hopes of the Premier League title having invested a considerable amount of money in the summer.
Looking from the outside in, they are not confident at the back and it shows.
Liverpool.
Struggling in the Champions League and struggling in the Premier League, things aren't quite going to plan for Brendan Rogers.
After a fantastic season last time around and huge investment, the Scousers find themselves fifteen points behind Chelsea after dropping ten out of eighteen points in the last six games.
Looking from the outside in, the signings brought into the squad this summer are not good enough and the ones that are, remain on the bench (Lallana, Lambert). I do not believe that Brendan Rogers knows what his best eleven is!
Manchester United.
United picked up another three points at the weekend and their run hasn't been so bad over the same period of time (six games). They have dropped seven points and find themselves thirteen points behind Jose Mourinho's men.
Looking from the outside in, their defensive woes are set to continue until they throw money at them in January!
Southampton.
Now to the surprise package of the Premier League so far - Southampton! What a fantastic start to the season and at present, they are our nearest challengers just four points behind the Blues.
However, looking at the next month or so, the Saints are due to come up against Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United so we will see where we find them in the League table after that period.
Looking from the outside in, Koeman has his players working hard and playing for each other. They are up there with Chelsea as far as playing as a unit with the best defensive record so far!
Are they realistic challengers? Is a Champions League place something they should be aiming towards now?
Chelsea.
We head into the international break and things really couldn't be any better for us. We had to cope with our first real injury problem with Costa over recent weeks but it hasn't really affected us which is a good sign.
The team is playing well, working hard for each other and for the most part, we are looking a solid unit defensively and potent up front.
Nemanja Matic and Eden Hazard have been the standout performers over the last couple of games compared to Costa and Fabregas at the start of the season which again, is a good sign to see most people playing well and enjoying their football.
It's early days at the moment and there is a long way to go in the Premier League season. As we all know, things could change in an instant so we need to wait until the end of January to see how things have played out, to see where we all are and to take it forward from there.
For the time being, with Arsenal, City and Liverpool all dropping points, Chelsea just have to keep on winning!
