After beating Chelsea in the corresponding fixture last season, it seems that Crystal Palace head into this weekend full of confidence and looking forward to the game.
As we all know it was games such as this one last season that had a huge impact in the outcome of the Premier League title last term. It was literally in Chelsea's hands, we were on control of our own destiny and blew it!
So, this weekend, the Chelsea players will be looking for revenge, to put right the wrong of last season and to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season but it will not be easy after reading one particular quote that has come out of the Palace camp this week.
Joel Ward has been speaking ahead of the game to the Premier League's Official Website and said:
"Last year we proved the type of team we are and the squad that we've got. We knew exactly what we wanted to do. They are going to have spells where they have a lot of the ball, but we locked up shop, hit them on the break and made life difficult for them with the strategy at times, and that's what we were very good at.
I can't wait to play the big teams and the big names but every team has got good players and that's why it's the best league in the world. Their two additions [Costa and Fabregas] are incredible, world-class players and we will have to try and stop them on the day.
When you're facing the big teams as a club, we feel they're added-bonus games. For a player it is great to play against the players involved in those teams, but we give ourselves the best opportunity to go there and make sure we have an impact on the game, hopefully turn in a big performance and come away with a great result."
Make no mistake, this is a dangerous game for Chelsea on Saturday. Palace as Ward has stated, will see this as a game (on paper) they are not to expect a positive result and anything they get from it is a bonus. It's that freedom to go out and enjoy the game that could cause Chelsea major problems.
However, looking at the way Chelsea have started the season, including the addition of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa with the way they have combined, this SHOULD be another three points.
So far, we look as though we have the answers to break teams down that look to sit and defend deep, playing counter attacking football.
It's one thing to talk about it, another to get out there and do it so our attitude and approach must be spot on. Anything less and we could find ourselves in a difficult game this weekend!
