One story that has caught my eye in recent days was a quote that came from David Luiz. Luiz has claimed that he rejected the offer of a new contract from Chelsea in favour of a move to PSG. I am wondering what your opinions of the £50m deal are now?
Luiz said:
"I was happy with the plan PSG offered me and I think it was exactly the right moment to move. Chelsea also offered me a new contract but it was my choice to come here.
I was playing for a big club like Chelsea and now I've got opportunity to play for another big club. I'm enjoying it here."
So to our squad that Jose has assembled this season, the new signings he has made and the £50m deal that raised plenty of eyebrows at the time, especially being days after Brazil were humiliated by Germany in the World Cup this past summer!
You look at us now and it was always going to be Gary Cahill and JT as the number one pairing, Ivanovic at right back and Azpilicueta at left back. Kurt Zouma as the backup looks t be a real presence in that back four when he has featured and it's safe to say his time will come.
So what about our midfield now and the pairing of Fabregas and Matic gives us something very different. Yes, the Luiz/Matic pairing had it's moments last season but, after all of us were asking for the Brazilian to be played in midfield because of his passing ability, we now have the maestro that is Fabregas so I believe Luiz wouldn't be considered there either!
David Luiz was almost a cult hero at the Bridge and played a huge part in the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup success we had in his time. However, £50m was simply a deal we could not afford to turn down and the move to PSG in my eyes, suits all of us.
What do you think? Do you think Luiz would have got into the starting eleven this season?
