Much has been said of Cesc Fabregas and his return to the Premier League with Chelsea. With six assists already in four games, he is getting the plaudits for his role in our attacking third but the defensive side of his game on Saturday has been picked apart on SkySports' Monday Night Football by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
I want you all to watch this video and take note as it's an eye opener and leads me to ask whether or not we should continue with Fabregas playing in the 4-2-3-1 formation, next to Matic as part of the deeper two in the midfield.
It's very interesting viewing isn't it. Many of us would have missed things like this in the game but hopefully Jose Mourinho has not.
I wrote my match report for Saturday and stated that the boss cannot be happy with the amount of goals we have been conceding, despite scoring the amount of goals that we have. Have Carragher and Neville revealed the reason above? It's definitely something to consider.
Looking at the tactical change at half time pinpointed by Carragher in the second part of the video, I am all for us changing our formation to the tried and trusted 4-3-3 as it suits Fabregas better. You only have to look at the influence he had on the game in the second half compared to the first (as highlighted above) to see that we look defensively better with him playing, knowing he has two midfielders behind him to cover any potential counter attack.
Have a watch of the video and then answer the following question:
Do you think we need to switch to a 4-3-3 and play Fabregas alongside Matic and Ramires with a freedom to push forward from deep to support our play?
