Jose Mourinho surprised us all last night by stating that Diego Costa WILL start for Chelsea against Sporting Lisbon tonight but admitted that it is a risk by doing so. I want to know if you believe it's worth the risk?
Being honest, I am somewhat surprised that he is starting. I could understand with Didier Drogba being injured and missing out, if Costa was named on the bench and Loic Remy started. Costa could act as cover if anything happened to Remy.
With Arsenal coming up on Saturday ( make sure you check out the latest Premier League odds here ahead of the game) and Jose Mourinho admitting last week that he has hardly trained, needing a full week to recover, I really do not see the point in taking such a risk with Costa as we all sat and watched what happened to him with the injury problems he had towards the end of last season.
Hamstring injuries and muscle problems take time to heal properly so you would expect the club would choose to allow Costa the maximum time amount of time possible in between weekends. What happens if it goes tonight? We would then face two, three, even four weeks without Costa and with Drogba injured, Loic Remy would be our only fit striker at the club! Of course it could all go the right way and Costa comes through the game without problem. Fingers crossed that is the case!
I can't help but feel that it's because of the poor result at home against Schalke two weeks ago that Mourinho is literally forced into playing Costa. If we had won that game I would not be asking the same question this morning.
I really, really hope everything works out tonight. Ideally, we go two or three goals up and take Costa off as quickly as possible.
For me, it's a risk we do not need to take but what do you think?
