Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Frank Lampard is set to join Manchester City on loan this week until he moves to America in January. I just wondered how you the Chelsea fan reading this post feels about Lampard's move?
If I am honest, the move has been expected ever since he signed a deal to join City's NYC franchise the New York City FC. As we have seen with David Villa, he has also signed for the new NYC side, but has made a temporary move to play for City's franchise in Australia until the MLS pre season starts.
So what of the loan move for Lampard back to the Premier League after being released by Chelsea? Well it's a little strange to me, especially to see Lampard wear the blue of our title rivals after spending such a long time at the Bridge.
Will he be able to play against Chelsea on September 21st? Would he want to? Well if Manuel Pellegrini has anything to do with it he will be available for selection.
Speaking from the USA and the pre season tournament City have been playing, the City manager said:
"From next Wednesday he will start working with our team and will play for us until January – we’ll see after that.
At the moment he will work with the squad and be a member of the squad. He will fight for a position.
He knows we have a very good team, we have a lot of players in his position. He is one player more.
We have a lot of games particularly with the Champions League, so he’s very important for our team.
(On the possibility of playing Chelsea) I will talk about all those things with him but he’ll be a player for City and he’ll play every game he needs to play. "
You have to wonder exactly how many games Lampard will start for City. I cannot see him being a regular starter ahead of players like Toure, Fernando and Fernandinho but as with anything in football, you never know!
I cannot help but feel slightly confused with the move after comments made by Jose Mourinho in the last few days.
He revealed that Lamps and Ashley Cole were both offered new contracts by Chelsea but both wanted to remain important players in the first team, playing more often than not, which is something Jose could not offer. Now he moves to City where Pellegrini has described him as an important player??
I guess with everything in life, time goes by and we have to move on but to see Lamps in the Premier League wearing City blue will be something strange and will take some time to get used to.
Frank Lampard is and always will be a Chelsea legend and I am sure he will come back to the club in some form after his playing days are over.
If he was to feature against Chelsea for City on 21st September, I am sure he will get a fantastic reception from Chelsea fans no matter what happens. He knows how important he is and has been to us.
How do you people feel about the move to City and potentially lining up against Chelsea?
