Chelsea starlet about to sign a new five-year contract?

According to Goal.com., Thibaut Courtois is to be offered a new five-year contract after receiving backing from the manager and cementing his place as Chelsea's new number one this season and beyond.

It's a smart move by the club as the situation with Courtois coming into this summer was a precarious one and in my opinion, forced the hand of Mourinho and signalled the end of Petr Cech's time at Chelsea.

I've always stated on here that with Courtois having just two years left on his current contract and having spent no time playing in English football, to let him remain in Madrid for another year would have been very, very costly indeed!

If that had happened, Courtois would come to Chelsea this time next season and have all the cards stacked in his favour. He could have quite easily refused to sign a new deal stating that he has no experience of playing in the Premier League and wants to spend the next few years in La Liga. As a result, Chelsea would have had a decision to make; play him for a season and risk him leaving for nothing or, allowing him to leave for a minimal fee, therefore losing out.

It was always on the cards that he would come back and now Chelsea look to have taken the higher ground by giving him what he wanted and hopefully in response, he will sign a new deal and give everyone at the club exactly what they wanted!

Expect a new deal to be announced ASAP!
