If reports in the past couple of days are to be believed, Chelsea have finally agreed a 20m Euro fee with Atletico Madrid for left-back Filipe Luis. A fee that is MORE than his reported release fee.
I am surprised to read opinion on Luis on social media and I can see that the signing of the left back will divide opinion amongst the Chelsea faithful across the world.
He is 28 years old and in the current climate I do not think 20m is too bad after watching his performances last term. In saying that, some people have touted the Argentinian full back Marcos Rojo as a better option bearing in mind he is only 24.
It's been clear for months now that Jose Mourinho knows exactly what he wants and who are we to question him? If Filipe Luis is the player he has identified for the left back role in his team then we should ALL get behind the manager and support his decision.
The problem for the player himself in recent weeks is his apparent plea to his current club to allow him to leave Madrid. Ever since that happened, the press are reporting that he has been banished to train with the reserves despite the new La Liga Champions signing a replacement in his position.
With Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois already heading to West London, Luis will have no problems in settling in at the club. I just hope the deal can be confirmed and sorted out as soon as possible.
If these reports are to be believed, that could literally be any day now!
What do you think of the Luis signing?
