As has become the norm at Chelsea football club this time of the year the loan moves are starting to be announced on something of a regular basis. This time we are seeing 20 year old forward Lucas Piazon head out on loan for the third time.
The Bundesliga has become a league this season where you will be able to catch plenty of Chelsea youngsters out on loan as Piazon joins Kalas and Thorgan Hazard in the German top flight. It has not been a league we have seen many Chelsea loans recently and it is a good league and will help the development of these players.
Piazon has had in general a very good loan record. His first loan move was the season before last for the second half of the season to Malaga, and whilst he did not play every game he played enough and at a top level for a player of his age and experience. That loan move led to last seasons loan to Vitesse Arnhem where he was absolutely dominant in the first half of the season having a great season and scoring plenty of goals.
However the good form did not continue for Vitesse or for Piazon and he found himself pretty much frozen out for the remainder of the season. Plenty of things have been attributed to that decline in appearances from the manager using him as a scapegoat, to a falling out between player and manager and a poor attitude from Piazon.
Frankfurt and the Bundesliga will be a different prospect for Piazon and a good place for him to develop this season with a view of taking the next steps towards playing for Chelsea's first team. For me he needs to be more consistent with his performances, something which has always been the case with him from my time watching him, he will either be fully involved in everything or the game will pass him by and that is something he needs to deal with.
Piazon is a very talented player and he needs to step his game up this season and show Chelsea what he is about and what he can offer and hopefully he will do just that.
