Cesc Fabregas scored a stunning free kick, his first goal for Chelsea, during their 3-1 pre season victory over Vitesse Arnhem last night literally hours after being hailed by a former team mate at Barcelona.
Being honest, I still can't quite believe that I am seeing Fabregas in a Chelsea shirt but the more I see him play in blue, the more he looks settled, comfortable and like he has been here for years.
Fabregas was deployed by Mourinho last night in the number ten role, pushed further forward with Nemanja Matic and Marco Van Ginkel in the deeper midfield positions.
Although Fabregas didn't have as much of the ball as he had previously playing in one of those positions, he was still able to make an impact in the game.
Diego Costa picked the ball up halfway inside the opposition half and took the ball forward towards goal, across the line of the back four when he was brought down 25 yards out. It was in prime position.
Up stepped Fabregas and he slotted the ball home with ease to score giving the goalkeeper no chance.
As you can see, it was a fantastic strike from Fabregas and it's good to see him look settled and happy at he club.
According to Pedro, his former team mate of his at Barcelona, the signing of Fabregas could make Chelsea real Champions League contenders.
He said:
He is a good friend of mine, not only here, but we were together with the national team. Chelsea will be difficult to beat in the Champions League because they have strengthened well and made some great signings.’
Let's hope it's the case in the Premier League this season and not only the Champions League. Even looking at the squad last night on show, knowing that we still had the likes of Courtois, Drogba, Hazard, Mikel, Oscar, Schurrle and Willian to come back, we just look so so strong in every position for the season ahead.
One thing is certain, if Cesc Fabregas can provide Chelsea with what we had been missing last season with Diego Costa scoring goals, Chelsea will be right in contention for silverware at the business end of the season!
