According to various news sources, Chelsea have turned to Didier Drogba as a backup option this coming season with the big Ivorian taking on coaching duties in addition. I am asking you the Chelsea fans whether or not you believe this is a good move?
There is a saying that you should never go back but in some cases the sentiment is too strong. Just as with Jose Mourinho, it's being reported that Drogba, despite having offers to move elsewhere, favours the return to Stamford Bridge.
As each day passes, we are reading reports that Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba will join Samuel Eto'o out of the exit door before the close of the transfer window. That leaves Diego Costa and Fernando Torres to fight for the start. We all know you cannot take part in a full season of games at this club with only two striking options so it makes sense to look at a third.
I have spoken already about Lukaku. You look at him and believe that he could be the man to mix things up when we are struggling to break teams down. You would think that with his size and strength he would be able to lead the line, hold off defenders and bring others into play but up till now, that isn't in his game. He loses far more headers that he wins for example.
This is where Drogba comes in. Can he still do a job when called upon? I believe he could. Could he provide that much needed out ball or link between the midfield and attacking players when we are struggling in games? Yes, I believe he can. Is he too old or past it? For what Mourinho would utilise him for, no I don't think he is.
It's obvious that Drogba remains a role model to everyone at the club and to bring him here to work as a coach will be hugely beneficial.
If you think about it, who else is there that would come to the club and accept being third choice? Demba Ba has already expressed his frustrations last season but with Drogba it's different. He has been there, seen it and quite literally done it.
I firmly believe if these reports are true, that Drogba's return will be a good move for everyone. What do you people think?
