19 year old Chilean left back Christian Cuevas is the latest player to be sent out on loan and on the face of things it looks like a step back for the young man.
Having officially signed for Chelsea from the Chilean side O'Higgins at the start of last season the young left back moved immediately on loan to join the Vitesse partnership in the Dutch league. It was a disappointing move for Cuevas as he failed to make a single first team appearance.
With that loan move not quite going to plan and having settled himself into life in Europe the decision was taken to drop him down a division in the Dutch pyramid of football and he joined FC Eindhoven in the winter transfer window.
That loan move went much better for him and he featured in all of the games for FC Eindhoven since making the move and made a total of 13 appearances for the club and managed to score a goal in the time also. I would have thought that from there it would have been time for him to move up a level and try to make his impact.
However that has not happened and what has been decided instead is for him to go back to Chile on loan and join Universidad De Chile where he will spend the rest of the season. The reasoning for this loan will not be made clear but at a guess you can assume that either the player has not been able to settle in Europe or Chelsea feel that the player is not going to be able to achieve the standard required.
Either way I feel this is the beginning of the end for Cuevas as a Chelsea player and quite possibly by the end of the season we will see Cuevas moved on or join the ranks of players like Davilla and Pirez who move around clubs for the duration of their contract without going anywhere near Chelsea.
