COLE ON LIVERPOOL: "They are not the biggest club any more."

Many Chelsea fans couldn't understand a quote from Joe Cole shortly after he signed for Liverpool. We had read that he felt that he had joined the biggest club in the world. Cole now sets the record straight.

Speaking in an interview with CFCUK, Cole said:

‘When I joined, the guy interviewing me said “you’ve joined the biggest club in the country” and reeled off the trophies they’d won.

I just said “Yeah, if you put it like that, I suppose you’re right”, and Liverpool used that as the headline to the interview.

I didn’t want to upset anyone so I just went along with it. But obviously they are not the biggest club any more.

How do you judge how big a club are? Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice but they’re not a bigger club than Chelsea.’ 

I always felt that something wasn't quite right about the interview and it's good to hear finally that they used the interview to give themselves a boost because let's face it, apart from the Champions League and FA Cup, they haven't won the League for over 20 years!

Good luck to Joe Cole at Villa this season. Hopefully he will get a consistent run of games to get back to being somewhere near his best!
