If the reports in the media are true, Chelsea have set an asking price for Lukaku which seems to have scared off any potential suitors and a loan move to La Liga is now the preferred option.
The future of Romelu Lukaku is something that intrigues me and many other Chelsea fans around the globe. After watching him have two successful seasons in the Premier League, many think that he has done more than enough to be given a chance at Stamford Bridge.
However, some media sources are indicating that Chelsea are looking for around £25m for a permanent transfer away from the club and that fee has scared off any potential suitors such as Everton and potentially the interest that had been spoken of from Tottenham.
Some people will think of another loan move to a club in the Premier League next season but reports will have you believe that Chelsea do not want to be faced with another embarrassing situation such as last season. Our strikers struggled for goals whereas Lukaku scored plenty and it led to various questions being asked of the decision to send him to Everton in the first place.
So to next season and it looks like he remains someone who does not feature in Jose Mourinho's plans despite my own personal opinion that he provides the manager with an alternative option if our preferred attacking approach is not working.
I have always said that Lukaku gives you the option to lump the ball up to him and play off of him using his strength and his build to hold the ball up, similar to that of Didier Drogba. Although he is nowhere near as effective at doing that at the moment, it's something that he will improve over time.
We have seen only the other day Lukaku's ability to score goals as he did for Belgium this past week. He can score all sorts of goals for you and as we know, has a proven record.
Now, it's being reported that Lukaku has been offered to Atletico Madrid to compensate for them potentially losing Diego Costa. Whether or not they take up the option is another thing but it looks like if they don't take him, Chelsea are keen to see someone else in Spain take him for a season.
What do you people think about the latest developments with Lukaku? Do you think his asking price is too high and if he should be given a chance at Chelsea? What about another potential loan but to La Liga?
