Despite Jose Mourinho's claim that very little needed changing at Chelsea this summer, I believe this window could be one of our busiest ever. Paul Pogba is now a name that is being strongly linked to Chelsea!
The signing of Cesc Fabregas was a real signal of intent from the manager as he looks to rebuild in key positions head of our title assault this coming season. There was no messing about, Fabregas became available as Frank Lampard leaves us and within days Chelsea had the deal sewn up!
If you look at our side now, you can slowly see the pieces of the jigsaw being put together by the manager. The Chelsea side of the last ten years was built around a solid spine that has served us well in the most successful period of our era. It's becoming clear that he has set about doing the same.
Thibaut Courtois will join up with the squad and take part in his first season in English football. At just 22 years of age, Courtois is at the right moment in his career to come to London and let's face it, he could become so for the next ten seasons and beyond!
In front of him, John Terry and Gary Cahill with maintain their partnership with JT already posting details of his training regime this summer on social media.
The signing of Nemanja Matic was huge at the time and for the second part of our season, Matic proved just how much he has improved and just how important he will become in the whole makeup of the new Mourinho team.
Ahead of him, Cesc Fabregas will operate as our play maker in the number ten role, pulling the strings and dictating play. Fabregas will give us important and vital experience in that position.
Up top we will have a main striker up top which is more than likely going to be Diego Costa once the deal is completed. So you can see how the new spine is shaping up.
Literally a couple of days ago, Chelsea were reported as offering Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos a mega five-year contract to become part of Jose Mourinho's revolution. You would imagine sitting next to Matic, Kroos would become the conductor of Mourinho's orchestra in midfield, popping his passes about with ease as he does.
So what of the reported interest this time in Paul Pogba? Well, a report today states that Pogba has been identified by the manager as someone to come in and combine with Matic in one of those two deeper midfield positions, but to try and tempt him away from Juventus will cost us in excess of around £60m.
Sources "close" to Chelsea state that the club is putting together "a staggering package" to entice the 21-year-old away from Italy on top of breaking our transfer record to sign him.
The apparent reason (according to the report) that Mourinho wants him now is because he believes that Pogba will become a major driving force from midfield in years to come.
It's always important to remember that at times such as these, players agents play a massive role in stories such as these coming out. I am saying this because all indications are that Juventus intend to offer him a bumper pay rise to keep him in Italy. So this is where the agent comes in. They are talking more money, someone somewhere comes up with the link to Chelsea (knowing that Jose is looking to rebuild) and all of a sudden his client is in a stronger position (which leads to more money for him!).
I haven't seen enough of Pogba really to give a proper judgement but at the moment for me, if the reports over recent days have any substance, would prefer Toni Kroos. It's without question that Pogba has talent but I would need to see more of him being honest.
What do you people think of Pogba? The link to Chelsea? Toni Kroos and finally the pieces of Jose Mourinho's new jigsaw being put together?
