Real Madrid star CONFIRMS Chelsea interest!

Rafael Varane, the young Frenchman given his chance at Real Madrid by Jose Mourinho has been quoted in Marca revealing interest from Chelsea this summer.

Everyone has expected Jose Mourinho to make a move to sign an additional defender at the club ever since David Luiz was sold to PSG. We currently have John Terry and Gary Cahill as first choice with Branislav Ivanovic and Kurt Zouma but it's obvious that Mourinho sees Ivanovic as a permanent right back which leaves space for an additional signing to come in.

Tomas Kalas came in and did well in both the games he started at Liverpool and Cardiff towards the end of the season but indications are that he will spend this coming season on loan at another Premier League side to gain vital experience.

So to Varane and his future in Madrid. When asked of reported interest from Chelsea, the young French Defender said:

“I’m not thinking about interest from Chelsea right now. There’s a World Cup to prepare for; now’s not the time to dwell on that sort of stuff." 

Under Carlo Ancelotti Varane as not featured as much this season due to the centre back pairing of Pepe and Sergio Ramos being the preferred choice.

This leads me to the question of him coming to Chelsea if Jose decides to make his move because John Terry and Gary Cahill are the same here for the coming season. Surely Varane and Zouma will provide backup to those two?

One thing is for sure, Jose Mourinho is planning to build another Chelsea side with a view for the next five or six seasons as he did beforehand and we are seeing the old guard gradually leave the club.

Ashley Cole and Michael Essien and Didier Drogba have gone, Petr Cech is rumoured to be up for sale and we are yet to hear confirmed reports that Frank Lampard is off to the USA!

Could Rafael Varane be the next signing for Mourinho as he looks the bring down the average age of the squad and build for the future?

We will just have to wait and see!
