Well, well, well. It seems that PSG will not have everything their own way this summer as Oscar has revealed that he rejected their overtures to join David Luiz in the French capital. The question I have is why on earth he would be allowed to speak to them in the first place!
Laurent Blanc, backed by wealthy owners, is looking to build a side that will make a realistic challenge for the Champions League title. During recent seasons there has been real heavy investment made and although they have been found guilty of not complying with FFP, they are still looking to spend big this summer with the £50m signing of David Luiz signalling their intent this season.
Oscar, who has been linked with PSG all summer long, has revealed that the Parisian side had made an approach for him and talks had taken place which is surprising to say the least.
He said:
"I had contacts with PSG, that is true, but it did not go any further. And next season, I will stay at Chelsea."
Now without question, it's fantastic news that he intends to stay at Chelsea this season but why would he had been allowed to speak with them? Had a figure with Chelsea been discussed or agreed?
I always thought that the ruling is that you would need to agree a fee with the club who owns the players contract. Only then if an agreement is reached, they would then give you permission or freedom to talk to the player directly?
If they have made contact with the player first, without anything being agreed with Chelsea then to me that's classed as "tapping up" and they should be done for it by the governing body!
However, what if an agreement had been reached with Chelsea and they WERE given permission to talk to Oscar? That would be something very different.
It's all very confusing to me because we have only had comment from the player. So what if he was told of a bid and Chelsea gave him the choice to speak to them? He does and then turns them down to stay in West London. What of his future now?
I always thought that Oscar leaving Chelsea wouldn't happen despite the reported interest. We know that everyone has their price and money talks but PSG have their issues at the moment.
I will say this, credit to Oscar for staying and looking forward to the new season. It would have been easy for him to follow his best mate Luiz over to PSG but to reject their offer is excellent for Chelsea.
I still think there is more to this and we need answers to clear up all doubt about bids being made and accepted of if as I said, PSG have tried to tap him up!
Oscar will be at Chelsea this season and that's the positive to take from all this!
