The show of petulance from Romelu Lukaku to Belgium boss Marc Wilmots said it all as far as I am concerned of Lukaku and his performances in the two games for Belgium so far.
In both games, Lukaku has been substituted but yesterday, Lukaku was replaced early in the second half because lets face it, he had done literally nothing.
I understand that the World Cup is a far bigger stage than the Premier League. I understand that for most of the European sides that have travelled to Brazil, the conditions will be difficult with the humidity and the heat and I am aware that with the way Belgium play, with Lukaku as the lone striker, it will be difficult for him to find space and to get real service in the games so far.
However, he doesn't even look interested to me. He looks slow, he looks laboured and the marked difference between Lukaku and his replacement (who went on to score the winner after a fantastic run by Eden Hazard) was there for all to see.
It's these kinds of performances that will maintain the view Jose Mourinho had of him after watching the whole of pre season last term. Although he scored a few goals against teams from the Far East, Lukaku obviously had not done enough and was told that he would not be first choice at Stamford Bridge.
Everyone has a view and has had their say on the big man but surely looking at these two games in the World Cup so far, you have to agree that he must do a lot better.
For a man of his size he doesn't do well enough holding the ball up and winning the ball in the air for me. He should be dominating the defender he is up against, holding him off and making life more than difficult. So far, his markers have had it easy.
We have seen Lukaku do well in the Premier League for both West Brom and Everton and in addition the speculation of his future is discussed by people like me all the time, based on stories that appear in the media.
What I will say is that if Jose Mourinho at any stage has had second thoughts on Lukaku and was preparing to give him a chance at Chelsea next season, he would not have been impressed at all so far but what he has seen in Brazil.
Must do alot better Lukaku but that's if he is given the start in their last group game this week!
What do you people think of Lukaku's performances in Brazil so far?
