With news that Diego Costa had passed a medical with Chelsea yesterday, it seems that the transfer will be announced shortly. Ahead of the move, Juan Mata has praised Costa and believes he would be perfect for the Premier League.
As with all foreign players coming to England, you sit and wonder if they would be able to settle down in the country, learn the language, get used to the pace of our game and be able to replicate what they have achieved elsewhere here. I am feeling the same of Costa.
It's one thing to play week in, week out in La Liga where there is realistically only three teams that are fighting for honours and stand head and shoulders above everyone else. To come to England and play in a competition where everyone is strong and could on their day beat anyone is a different matter.
There is little doubt that his playing style would suit our game and Juan Mata spoke of Costa coming here and said:
"I don't know if it's been confirmed yet; I don't think so. I wish him the best: he's a forward who is very well suited to English football because of his power and strength. He's the type of player that thrives there, but he's still an Atlético player"
Since the days of Didier Drogba, Chelsea have missed having that presence up front. Some would argue that Romelu Lukaku would give us that if he was to be given a chance but I still believe that he is far from the finished article. You want someone who uses their strength and attributes to hold the ball up and win those headers and for me, he still gets beaten at doing that too easily.
Diego Costa is coming here for a big fee with a big reputation and without question will be targeted by defenders up and down the country to really test him and to see if he is the player everyone makes him out to be.
I just hope he lives up to the reputation and if anything becomes even better!
