According to various sources, Carlo Ancelotti has identified Ramires as a transfer target this summer and it;s being said that Chelsea would consider a deal if they could have Luka Modric in return.
Literally hours before Brazil kick off the World Cup with hopefully, Ramires playing a part, our midfielder is being linked with a move to re-unite with the coach that signed him, Carlo Ancelotti.
Signed by Ancelotti, Ramires has played a massive part in Chelsea's success over recent seasons. When he came here people wondered whether or not he would be able to cope with the pace and power of the English game due to his size but he has settled down really well.
Of course there are some elements to his game that he needs to improve on such as his touch and his tendency to get booked for needless, stupid tackles (Aston Villa) but overall compared to the player he was when he first came, he is much, much better.
It's natural that the manager that signed you will always have an interest in your progress. Ancelotti spoke very highly of Ramires at the time and you can imagine that he has watched his development for a far. Having steered Real Madrid to Champions League success, Ancelotti wants to build and wrestle the La Liga title away from neighbours Atletico Madrid and reportedly sees Ramires as one of the players he wants to help him do that.
The problem Chelsea have and especially with Latin players, when the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling, it's hard to stop their heads being turned and tempted to move.
Chelsea without Ramires in midfield are not the same because of his influence. His energy is endless, his work rate is fantastic and he has the ability to pop up in the right place at the right time to score you a goal or two.
So to the second part of the deal and reports that Mourinho wants Luka Modric. Again, it's only natural for a player signed by Mourinho for Madrid to be linked with a reunion. However, I am not so sure.
We keep hearing all these reports and developments with Cesc Fabregas leaving Barcelona but some of those reports state that Mourinho isn't 100% convinced and Modric would be his preferred option.
Chelsea have been linked with Modric in the past and as we know, had numerous bids turned down by Tottenham before he moved to Madrid one season later.
Would Luka Modric suit Mourinho's Chelsea this time around compared to Cesc Fabregas? For me he would because as he demonstrated this season in Madrid, he is more than happy to sit deep and pass the ball about whereas Fabregas plays in a similar style to Frank Lampard pushing forward.
Would the manager have to change his style to suit Modric? No he wouldn't. Would he have to for Fabregas? Yes I believe he would and would have to contemplate a return to 4-3-3.
What do you people think of a possible swap deal with Ramires and Modric? Who do you feel would have the better player and would you have Modric over Fabregas?
