The longer time passes it's concerning, especially after a deal for John Terry was sorted out as quickly as it was. Just what is happening with Frank Lampard and his Chelsea career?
I will be honest, once the Terry deal was sorted out, I expected the same to be done for Lampard but for one reason or another it just hasn't happened. Whether that's because he is away with England preparing for the World Cup god only knows but to me it's strange that nothing has been done to this point.
I saw a comment placed on Twitter this morning and is something I agree with 100%. A question was asked why the club had not made more of a big deal after the Norwich game of Ashley Cole leaving and of Frank Lampard if it is to be the case that he joins Cole in leaving? It's a fair point!
Lampard said:
"I don't know if I'll be at Chelsea next season. I'd like to carry on for two or three more years but it would be good to end on a high.
So, if that means it all ends tomorrow, I wouldn't have any regrets. You know your shelf-life, so I started to mentally prepare when I hit 30.
I've been doing this for a long time, so there's a part of me that's looking forward to the future."
Recently there had been reports that the reason for the delay had been because of talks breaking down between Chelsea and Lampard indicating that his contract demands were not acceptable. For me, Lampard isn't like that and seems to be someone who isn't driven by money. Let's face it, he has more than he probably knows what to do with so I couldn't see that being an issue.
It looking to me that next season the first choice combination in the deeper midfield positions will be Nemanja Matic and Ramires leaving Marko Van Ginkel and Tiago (expected to re-sign on July 1st) as the backups.
Mikel is expected to leave the club this summer and it leaves just Frank Lampard as a member of the current first team squad as an alternative. That's if he stays here of course!
What do you think of a new deal for Lampard or if as stated on the Premier League website, Lampard being released by Chelsea on a free transfer?
