Much has been said of the possible signings that Chelsea could make this summer but I wanted to ask you all what you think of one of our existing players chances here next season - Romelu Lukaku.
Jose Mourinho has openly admitted that he has written his report, his take on things at the club, his plans for next season and suggestions to the board moving forward.
In the coming weeks, the manager and the club will sit down and plan for next season with potential targets identified but to also speak of the huge number of existing players out on loan and their futures at the club.
This brings me onto Lukaku and his season at Everton and the uncertainty about his future under Mourinho at Chelsea. Following two successful seasons in the Premier League first at West Brom under Steve Clarke and this season at Everton under Roberto Martinez, you can pretty much be certain that if Lukaku was to be sold, there would a queue of clubs willing to sign him.
Jose Mourinho has recently spoken of the young Belgian who will lead the attack for his country in Rio and gave maybe a hint that Lukaku could feature in his plans next term.
He said:
"Romelu Lukaku had what I call a successful loan.
Sometimes players go on loan and, at the end of the season, we cannot find one positive reason for that loan.
But Lukaku played all the time - apart from when he was injured - so he has minutes of experience in the Premier League in a good team, with a good coach and scoring his goals.
You can say the same thing about Thibaut Courtois [at Atletico]. A successful case of loans are the ones we have to analyse.
My final report [on the season, given to the club on Monday] will have in detail these kinds of cases.
That's my job - to analyse things, have an opinion and make my decisions.
I have to work with the club and respect the club's decisions but I know clearly what I would like for next season."
So what do you people think of Lukaku and his chances of being a part of the managers plans next term? I cannot help but think that there was some kind of falling out between the two which led to him being sent out on loan in the first place.
Some reports stated that Lukaku had handed in an official transfer request after being told he would not be the main striker and would be only a backup here this season. The player denied that was the case.
I have said that there would be plenty of suitors for Lukaku if he was to leave with teams such as Tottenham being linked with a bid to sign him. If anything, he could only go on to increase his reputation in the World Cup if Belgium have a successful tournament.
I have said it before on here but Lukaku offers Chelsea and the manager something different when we struggle to break teams down by playing a certain style. Whether that's enough to warrant a regular place in the team is something the manager would have to decide but it's important to remember that Lukaku would not want to come back and face the same problems Demba Ba has faced for the majority of the season.
So Chelsea fans, tell me what you think. Does Lukaku have a future at Chelsea?
