According to various media sources, Frank Lampard will sign a new one year contract with Chelsea when he returns from England's training camp this weekend!
As we know talks had been ongoing after John Terry signed on for another season and the press would have you believe that Lampard was holding out for a similar contract to the one that is due to expire on 1st July at around £150,000 per week.
Now I have said on here that I am 100% certain that Frank Lampard is not driven by financial gain, he just doesn't seem to be one of those people and you can imagine he is very clever with his finances. You wouldn't find him in the same situation as David James and Chris Sutton for example.
A source close to the deal said the following:
"Frank is feeling very positive about the whole thing. He fully expects his Chelsea future to be resolved at some point next week before he flies off to Brazil.
He is not looking at any other option other than spending next season at Stamford Bridge."
Last season, we have seen Lampard accept a different role to what he has had previously. Having spent 99% of his career at Chelsea as a first team regular, Lampard accepted that it would no longer be the case but still featured heavily in Chelsea's campaign under Jose Mourinho.
News of this new deal is great news for everyone concerned especially after hearing that Ashley Cole looks like leaving.
Money can't buy experience and will some new arrivals expected this summer as Jose Mourinho begins to piece together his title chasing side, the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard will both play a huge part in helping them settle into life at Chelsea in addition to leading by example.
I just wonder if Frank Lampard will feature as much in the coming season as he has in the previous one?
Congratulations Frank!
