The Diego Costa move to Chelsea concerns me at the moment for a number of reasons. I just wonder what the rest of you Chelsea fans reading this think of a possible deal after everything that has happened in recent weeks?
I will be honest, I am NOT 100% certain of the deal for Costa despite his goalscoring record in Spain. Every time I have seen him play, he has not looked anywhere near the player everyone has made him out to be. He has been injured for weeks, continues to play to make it worse and now we are hearing that Diego Simeone now wants the club to do all they can to keep him in Madrid.
Is it time that Chelsea change their focus and look at players such as Radamel Falcao who is believed to be up for sale for as little as £25m or even Loic Remy who it's believed to being sold by QPR this summer for as little as £8-£10m?
The Costa injury really concerns me especially because it's a grade one tear of his hamstring. Hamstring injuries can plague a Footballers career and can come back to bite you time and time again. If anything, and I know that Costa was doing all he could to play a part in the two biggest games of Atletico's season, he has made the whole situation worse by continuing to play against Barcelona and Madrid last weekend.
So what if Chelsea fork out the reported £32m to release Costa from his contract and he comes here and continues to suffer with injury problems? Well, dependant on who Mourinho would look to bring in as a second striking option, we would find ourselves back at square one again.
As for his performances that I have seen? Well he hasn't impressed me at all being honest. He has not performed in the big games and against Chelsea on both occasions, he didn't produce a stand out performance. The only thing of note that he did was look to have a ruck with John Terry during the first leg and has done so with various defenders throughout the course of the season in La Liga.
In recent days we are now hearing that Diego Simeone can do no wrong with Atletico Madrid and holds considerable power at the club. Not even his antics with Varane on the pitch towards the end of the Champions League Final could tarnish their opinion of him.
It's being reported that he has told people upstairs at his club that he doesn't want to sell his best players and is looking to defend their La Liga crown and make a renewed effort to win the Champions League next season. That would include the likes of Diego Costa so the whole talk of deal with Chelsea could fall through now.
For me, someone like Remy would be a fantastic option to consider. Premier League experience and the fact he has scored goals in this league could be key. He's quick and could be the striker we have been looking for over the past two seasons.
Mario Mandzukic is another option along with someone like Edin Dzeko if we are looking to bring someone into the club.
It's also important to consider that we still have Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku on our books so we are still yet to see what happens with their futures at the club. If anything, it's could be just one big name striker that comes into join them for the coming season.
The point I am making here is that there are plenty of other options for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho to consider besides Diego Costa.
What do you think?
