It's very easy today for Chelsea fans to feel down and disappointed after the result last night. To miss out being just one game away from our second Champions League Final in three seasons does hurt, but you have to hold your hands up and admit we were beaten by the better side!
What is important right now for each and every single one of us is to take a step back and although we have two games remaining of our season, evaluate just how far we have come!
In order to do so, you have to look back to when the season finished last term, how strong the squad was, where we had finished in the cup competitions and most importantly, where we had finished in the Premier League. Within seconds you should feel slightly better at least!
The League Cup isn't really something we are too bothered about if we are honest and the least of our priorities and this season after beating Arsenal on their own patch it was disappointing to lose at Sunderland. Pretty much so-so if you ask me.
The Super Cup we were unlucky against Bayern and only lost on penalties as they scored with literally the last kick of the game. With ten men, we took the lead and looked like holding out for the win.
In the FA Cup we had a decent run and lost to Manchester City shortly after beating them in the Premier League. It was obvious that the league game was the priority and it's no bad thing to lose to City away.
The Champions League has been a success after the nightmare of last season. To make unwanted history of becoming the first side to not qualify as holders from the group stages last season, to then once again progress through this season to our seventh semi final in eleven seasons is excellent and has put us back on track. Although we lost last night, you should all still see the positives from our excellent run in the competition.
As for the Premier League? What can you say apart from the fact that we are right back in the mix! Whether we have blown our chance for the title by losing points in recent weeks, the fact is that for two seasons we found ourselves well out of contention, nowhere near making a challenge and for a club like Chelsea and the levels we judge ourselves now, it was simply not acceptable.
The Special One is back and has guided us into the top three and challenging again. As it stands, the title looks along way off with just two games to go but you never know. Hopefully we can seal second place.
We have the best record against the top four sides in the league having dropped just two points in the six games we have played. We have played defensive counter attacking football and at times have blown teams away.
The progress in the Premier League is there for all to see and we should take stock of everything and be happy with what the team has achieved rather than focus on the negative.
As for the playing squad? It's my view that there will be a complete overhaul in the summer with many of our loanees sold on. Jose has said it himself, we are two or three players away from having a really good team and challenging for realistic honours next season.
Once the season finishes, I will focus more on the players who have made a real difference and those who haven't quite reached expectations and of course more on the manager!
It's not all doom and gloom Chelsea fans! Get your heads up and look forward to our two remaining games of the season!
