With Ashley Cole leaving Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has been on the look out for a replacement. A number of reports have linked Chelsea with a £19.5m move for Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis.
Despite the full back stating that he intends to honour the remaining three years of his contract in Madrid, the player has a release fee of £19.5m and reports indicate that Chelsea would be more than happy to offer that amount to bring him to West London.
It seems that Chelsea have been put off by Southampton's asking price for he highly rated Chelsea fan Luke Shaw which would be around £27-£30m. Although I believe Shaw would be a fantastic investment for the next eight to ten seasons, we cannot really justify spending that amount of money on someone who is just 18 years of age!
So to Luis and a possible move. Luis has had a fantastic season and played a pivotal part in a solid defence that took Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title and Champions League final.
He was signed from Deportivo La Coruna four seasons ago, is only 28 years old and coming into the prime years of his career. He had two outstanding games against Chelsea recently and despite being beaten in the Champions League Final by Madrid after extra time, both he and Juanfran had outstanding games.
So how could Chelsea tempt Luis to Stamford Bridge? Money of course. These numerous reports are stating that Chelsea would offer the player double the salary he currently earns in Madrid to around £78,000 per week to try and lure him to London and a deal that he would find hard to resist.
So what do you people think of Luis? Do you think he is a good option to replace Ashley Cole or should we be looking at Luke Shaw on the outside instead and the likes of Ryan Bertrand or Patrick Van Aanholt from the inside?
