One of the most intriguing reports I have seen over the past few days is Chelsea's interest in Bayern Munich Midfielder Toni Kroos. The downside is that if anything was to happen, it wouldn't be until this time next season!
Out of most of the midfielders that Chelsea have been linked with, Kroos for me is the main man that we should be focusing our efforts on trying to sign.
It's common knowledge that he has 12 months remaining on his current contract in Munich and it's believed that he currently earns around £60,000 per week.
The same report indicates that Kroos has been a loggerheads with the Bavarian side over a possible new deal because he wants to be paid the same as the big earners at the club who earn over double what he does currently. To that, Bayern are refusing to budge and have offered him an increase but nowhere near what the player feels he deserves.
So to Kroos and his future and before David Moyes was sacked at Manchester United, it was thought that Moyes had made Kroos one of his primary targets this summer. Now that Louis Van Gaal has taken over, it seems the Dutchman has other players in mind and United have cooled their interest. So much so, Kroos even spoke of a move away recently. He said:
‘There has been a lot of speculation, but I won’t be going to Manchester United. I can tell you for sure I will be playing for Bayern Munich next season.’
If Kroos stays this season in Munich and both he and the club still have their problems with his contract, he would become free to talk to other clubs in January and this is where Jose Mourinho and Chelsea come in.
You would think that a whole host of top European clubs would come in for Kroos if he was available at the age of just 24 now. Knowing he would be available on a free would be ideal for everyone with only his wage demands as an issue but, as we know, Chelsea wouldn't have that problem. Could the additional lure of playing for Jose Mourinho play a part in any possible move? We will have to wait and see.
For me, Toni Kroos is without question the Ringmaster in Munich. Everything good about their play comes from him passing the ball about from left to right in addition to his ability to score goals.
A player who is more than comfortable on the ball with both feet, he has demonstrated over recent seasons his discipline in playing the deeper role in Bayern's Midfield.
Now if I was the manager, I would be banging Bayern's door down to sign him now! With only 12 months of his contract remaining, we should be able to get some sort of a deal done for less than his value a year ago.
My head tells me that he wants to remain in Germany and somehow a deal would be sorted out to stay in Munich one way or the other.
However, if he were to become available, Toni Kroos is a player I would love to see here at Chelsea.
What do you people think of Toni Kroos?
