Chelsea drew 0-0 at home to Norwich in our final home game of the Premier League season and blew any slim chance we had of being Champions.
After a slow start, pedestrian in fact, Chelsea came to life in the second half but as we have found out so many times this season, we just could not break through. If anything, if it wasn't for yet another sensational tackle from Gary Cahill late in the game, Chelsea could have lost this one!
Looking at the bigger picture, Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League group stages by finishing third above Arsenal because our goal difference is far better than the team from North London. You get the impression that was the goal for this season and we have achieved that. The problem is, but for our slip ups in recent weeks, we could have been celebrating the title at the Bridge!
Chelsea are at their best when they have real tempo in their game. When they move the ball forward quickly, get the ball wide and really run at the opposition defence forcing them backwards. As a result, the game opens up and that's where Chelsea have the players to really punish people.
The first half performance was far too slow, far too laboured and if anything, made it easier for Norwich to play against. But for a Andre Schurrle effort that hit the post and a John Terry header straight at the Goalkeeper, the most talked about incident in the half was a penalty that was never given to Norwich. Ashley Cole and John Terry both made sliding tackles in the box on the same player, at the same time and replays showed that JT brought him down. It should have been a penalty.
Eden Hazard, David Luiz and Fernando Torres all came off the bench, during the second half with Hazard and Luiz at half time to ignite a spark into our play and within minutes we were playing better. However, as we have witnessed from Chelsea this season, Norwich parked the bus and defended for their lives and Chelsea just couldn't find a way through.
We continued to push forward and probe but to no avail with our own penalty appeal turned down after Eden Hazard looked like being taken out in the box, but to see that the Referee got his decision spot on watching the replay afterwards.
It became a frustrating afternoon for Chelsea in a time that had promised so much. Chelsea had a real chance to make a real challenge for the title and make another Champions League Final but have been found lacking and it's cost us.
You have to understand that Mourinho has only just started to build the team and squad of his image and there will be plenty of changes throughout the summer. He admitted that he started with a playing style he wanted to mould the team into but realised that we were conceding too many goals and had to change our approach, based on the players he had at his disposal.
One thing is certain from this season. The manager would have learn't so much this season and expect some key signings coming to the club to fill the void we all know we are lacking.
As for now, it's disappointing to finish at home with the way we have in the last two games but the silver lining is that we do not have to face the early season Champions League Play Off's to qualify for the group stages.
That seems to have been the realistic goal this term and it's been achieved.
