The whole Lukaku situation will become a major story this summer once the season is over. It's being reported that Tottenham have already registered their interest in the young Belgian as they look to rebuild their squad.
As a Chelsea fan, to do any sort of business with Tottenham raises eyebrows. But, money talks and if Jose Mourinho is willing to sell, expect Chelsea to make a profit on their initial investment on Lukaku.
I wrote an article the other day after our defeat to Crystal Palace and called for the club to think of keeping Lukaku because he gives us a different option up front. With him in the side, we have the option of mixing up our play rather than trying to pass our way through teams.
Lukaku's physical presence in the game (which still needs a lot of work) gives you the option to play balls up to him and to play off of him. Chelsea do not have that at the moment and after years of lumping it up to Didier Drogba, when we struggle to break teams down, Lukaku would be a great option to have.
However, it's clear that Mourinho wants Diego Costa and one other striker to fit into the jigsaw he is trying to put together. If we can get these deals done, Lukaku would be allowed to leave according to reports because let's face it, he asked to leave the club when it became clear that he wouldn't be guaranteed first team football and a compromise was agreed to send him to Everton.
Looking from the outside in, Tottenham did not spend the money they received from the sale of Gareth Bale at all well apart from the signing of Christian Eriksen. We all expect a clear out at Tottenham and it looks like Lukaku has become one of their main targets.
If Lukaku goes then it's such a shame for me. For someone to have proven themselves in the Premier League at West Brom and now Everton, to not be given a chance at Chelsea is disappointing. You would imagine if he was put up for sale a whole host of clubs would be in for him.
Will that be Tottenham we will have to wait and see. Could you imagine Lukaku at Spurs?
